Künstlerhaus Gamsburg
Description
Named after the artist Prof. Sepp Gamsjäger and due to its exposed, castle-like location high above the village of Annaberg, the Gamsburg is enthroned. With this castle, the artist and his wife Erna created a valuable cultural site in their home community.
With a retrospective exhibition at the place where Sepp Gamsjäger lived and worked, the artist's works are still accessible today under the curator Traude Moser (cousin of Sepp Gamsjäger). Visits to the "Gamsburg" can be arranged by telephone (T +43 664 73798812).
Portrait and watercolor seminars are also offered.
You can also follow in the footsteps of Sepp Gamsjäger around the Gamsburg:
In 1973, the artist created the Annaberg Way of the Cross with 14 panels, which was shown in more than 80 churches. The original pictures were subsequently fired onto enamel plates and placed in 14 picture frames along the "Via Sacra" to the parish church of Annaberg.
The Gamsjäger Motif Trail between Annaberg and the Annabergerhaus on the Tirolerkogel also leads to selected painting sites by the artist.
About Sepp Gamsjäger (*15.1.1923 to †9.8.1991)
Born in Annaberg in 1923, Sepp Gamsjäger became famous and well-known for his unique portraits, his watercolors and the Annaberg Way of the Cross in the 1970s and 1980s. However, he also created important graphic works during his artistic Sturm und Drang period in the 1950s and 1960s, when he worked in studios and as a freelance artist in Vienna. These works were mainly graphic commissions for the advertising industry. His subjects for summer and winter tourism in Lower Austria, for example, are well-known, but he also created advertising subjects for branded articles for renowned companies such as Tungsram, Maggi, Kapsch and Wienerwald. His car illustrations for the Ford company are particularly noteworthy.
